RF / Systems Specialist
This is an advanced technical role within Northern Skies Communications. The RF / Systems Specialist is responsible for system-level design, configuration, troubleshooting, and optimization of communications infrastructure across Alaska.
Position overview
This is not an entry-level role. This position requires a strong foundation in RF systems and the ability to work at both the field and system level with minimal supervision.
Mission of the role
The mission is to ensure communications systems remain reliable, scalable, and operational in demanding environments where failure is not acceptable.
Key responsibilities
- Design and troubleshoot RF systems
- Support trunked and digital communications systems
- Perform system-level diagnostics and optimization
- Lead complex field deployments
Minimum requirements
- Strong RF theory and field experience
- Ability to work independently
- Advanced troubleshooting capability
- Professional discipline and accountability
Technical scope of work
- Trunked systems
- P25 and NXDN digital systems
- Advanced RF system integration
- Motorola, Kenwood, Icom platforms
- Networked communications infrastructure
Licensing requirements
- FCC GROL required prior to application
- GMDSS Maintainer required for maritime work
- TWIC required for port work
Alaska preference
Alaska residents with real-world field experience are strongly preferred. Out-of-state applicants must demonstrate clear capability for full-time Alaska operations.
